Our ancestors had a much more diverse source of foods, so they probably were able to consume way more beneficial vitamins and minerals than are available today. They didn’t have to rely on produce grown from the soil that has been stripped of most of its nutritional value due to over farming.
For that reason, we need various supplements to fill in the gap. But which ones? There are so many options on the pharmacy shelves! It’s no wonder why you feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of supplements there are to choose from.
Over time, I have narrowed down what works best for me, and you’ll have to conduct some research of your own to help you do the same. I chose the supplements based on my most pressing needs: Energy and immunity are always at the top of my list, so those are the ones I gravitate towards. At the minimum, you should at least go with a good multivitamin.
Here’s a list of vitamins and supplements that I take that I think you’ll find helpful (some of these links will generate a commission for me, feel free to just conduct a search if you’d prefer not to click it):
This supplement provides immune support. It’s the same ingredient found in Airborne. I take one twice a day, in the morning and again before bedtime. When I feel a cold coming on, I take one every few hours. I’ve noticed that as long as I take them daily, I don’t get sick. However, when I get lazy and let myself run out, sure enough, within a week or so, I get sick.
This supplement supports brain function and overall well-being. When I take this once daily, I feel like it helps me focus and reduces those memory-lapse moments. I usually take this in the morning.
This is a Gundry product that when I’ve taken once a day, I notice that I’m less irritable and able to adapt better to stress. When taken in the morning, I notice that my mood is more uplifted and calm.
This oil is a natural plant source of Omega 3, 6, and 9. It supports immunity, heart health as well as skin, hair and nail health
You may have heard that it’s a good idea to take a probiotic to introduce good bacteria into your system. What you may not have realized, though, is that those good bacteria need the right food, otherwise they can’t thrive in your body even if you’ve taken them. So it becomes necessary to also take a prebiotic, in the form of dietary fiber to provide food for those good microbes. The link I’ve provided here is a Gundry product that contains both the microbes and the fiber needed to sustain them. It is a powder that can be added to smoothies or used alone.
This is a vegetable blend powder that also contains probiotics. This is another Gundry product that can be used alone or added to smoothies to boost your green veggie intake. It provides clean energy with no added sugar.
Resveratrol is a polyphenol that helps your body use its energy more efficiently. Polyphenols are important phytochemicals that keep your blood vessels healthy. Sources of polyphenols include berberine, cocoa powder, cinnamon, grape seed extract, green tea extract, mulberry, pomegranate, pine tree bark extract, and resveratrol, the polyphenol in red wine.
This is a polyphenol blend powder that increases energy. It is also a Gundry product that can be used alone or added to smoothies to increase nutritional value. It provides a noticeable energy boost.
ProPlant Complete Shake
This is a Gundry-Approved plant based protein shake that can be used alone or added to green smoothies for an extra protein boost. It comes in both vanilla and chocolate flavors.
Hair, Skin and Nails Multivitamin
I prefer this multivitamin because when I take it twice a day, it not only strengthens my hair and nails, but I believe it contributes to my overall health. You can use this or another multivitamin, just check the ingredients to make sure it contains B Vitamins and Vitamin D3.
For me, these are the supplements that provide the best boost to my energy and brain function levels. But your goals may be different, so as I mentioned earlier, you should find supplements that help you achieve your goals.
Which brands should you use?
You don’t have to use Gundry products or any of the ones I’ve listed here, if you don’t want to, however, I caution you to make sure you research the company to ensure you’re not taking something that is going to do more harm to your body than good. The cheapest products aren’t always the worse, but oftentimes, they aren’t the best either. So take that into account when making a decision about supplements.
More of the supplements Gundry recommends can be found on pages 273-285 of Plant Paradox.
